Use these simple fast-relief methods to soothe an upset stomach.

An upset stomach can include debilitating pain from cramps and spasms, affect your appetite and lead to nutrient loss by way of a running stomach and vomiting.

They can be caused by certain food, or menstruation, among other conditions.

You may be able to soothe your stomach and prevent the diverse effects of stomach upset by drinking certain beverages and eating certain foods.

Look no further than your kitchen to find relief.

1. BRAT diet

It can be hard to figure out what to eat when your stomach is disturbed. However, you don’t have to wait for it to calm before you can have some nutrients. The BRAT diet is used for children when they have a stomach ache. It is Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast (BRAT). It is a low-fibre and high-binding diet that can get you through a bout of stomach upset without making it worse.

2. Peppermint (Mujaaja)

The menthol in peppermint leaves is a natural pain reliever. It is a common quick fix for nausea and stomach upset.

You can take it in the following ways: make a cup of peppermint tea, sniff peppermint extract, suckon a minty candy, or chew on the leaves.

3. Bitters and soda

Cocktail bitters contain ingredients like fennel, mint, ginger, and cinnamon, that help relieve stomach disturbances. Five or six drops of cocktail bitters into a cold glass of ginger ale, tonic, or club soda will soothe you right up. They are typically found at the bar, but you can order some online.

4. Ginger

This list would be incomplete without this super-spice. Ginger has been used across generations to treat pain and some kinds of stomach disturbances.

It has anti-inflammatory properties in all forms like supplements, beverages, and chewing it. Make a cup of ginger tea with fresh ginger chopped into pieces.

5. Chamomile tea

Chamomile tea has anti-inflammatory properties that can help relax stomach muscles. This can reduce pain from spasms and cramps.

6. Apple cider vinegar

This acidic pantry staple can neutralise an upset stomach if you can get it passed the tongue. Some people take it before meals as a preventives measure against indigestion and other stomach issues. Add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a tablespoon of honey to a cup of water and sip slowly.

7. Heating pad

Cuddling a heating pad can bring you relief from the cramping and feeling sick. You can use a hot water bottle if you don’t have a heating pad. The warmth on your stomach will take your mind off the pain as the heat helps the muscles relax and nausea to go down. Use for a short time to avoid damaging your skin.
