The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, FCT Command has arrested 254 traffic offenders, including a man impersonating a military officer, during the ongoing Operation Restore Sanity IV.

A statement released on Sunday in Abuja by the Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, said the operation led to 245 convictions secured through Mobile Court sittings.

The Mobile Courts sat from September 8 to 12 at the Nyanya Unit Command, and on September 10 at the Karu Unit Command. The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigerian Army Brigade of Guards.

The enforcement exercise targeted increasing cases of traffic violations along the Abuja Nyanya corridor, known for reckless driving, route violations, and overloading.

In total, 254 offenders were arraigned for committing 563 traffic related offences. Of these, 245 were convicted, while nine were discharged after legal review.

The offences included 129 seatbelt violations, 122 driver’s licence violations, 111 cases of overloading, and 63 route violations. Other infractions included dangerous driving, traffic light violations, number plate violations, wrongful overtaking, use of phone while driving, caution sign violations, and impersonation.

Seven repeat offenders  Shaab Murtala, Abel Sunday, Sunday Salasi, Benjamin Augustine, Ekem Charles, Hussaini Kabir, and Samsudeen Abdullahi  were found guilty of multiple offences. They were sentenced to between three hours and five days of community service.

One of the offenders, Hussaini Kabir, who impersonated a military officer while committing several traffic offences, was sentenced to five days of community service at Mambilla Barracks.

The Mobile Courts were presided over by His Worship Maryam Muazu Alhaji and His Worship Huzaifa Maccido. The FCT Sector Legal Officer, CRC Cindy Talabi, served as the prosecuting counsel.

The Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, commended the FCT Command for its efforts and stated that similar operations would be held across all states. He warned motorists to avoid reckless driving, overloading, and other dangerous behaviours, adding that the FRSC would not relent in prosecuting traffic offenders.
