Fayose Resigns From PDP, Alleges Internal Compromise

Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, a prominent governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, has formally resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing the party leadership of sabotaging internal democracy.

Fayose, who announced his resignation at a press conference in Abuja, stated that he could no longer remain in a party he believes has been hijacked by vested interests bent on frustrating genuine aspirants.

According to him, the PDP under the current national leadership has abandoned fairness and transparency, replacing them with a culture of imposition. He accused the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, of compromising the party’s processes in ways that threaten its survival.

“The PDP governorship primary process in Ekiti has already been compromised. What is being prepared is nothing but a kangaroo arrangement that cannot stand the test of legality or enjoy the recognition of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),” Fayose said.

He stressed that his decision was not taken lightly but became inevitable after witnessing what he described as deliberate efforts to edge out committed party members.

“I have lost confidence in the ability of the PDP to conduct a credible primary. My supporters and I cannot waste our time in a party that has chosen impunity over fairness,” he added.

While Fayose did not disclose his next political move, he urged his supporters across Ekiti State to remain calm, assuring them that consultations are ongoing.

“In due course, we will announce the platform through which we will continue our struggle to deliver good governance to Ekiti people,” he said.

His resignation is expected to stir political realignments ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti, as observers believe Fayose’s next destination could significantly shape the balance of power in the state.
