The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has announced a compulsory directive for all courier and delivery service providers operating within the state to use reflective jackets and visibility tapes during evening and nighttime hours.
This directive, signed by Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Transportation, aims to improve road safety and reduce accidents involving dispatch riders.
According to Mr. Olawale Musa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, all riders operating between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. must wear reflective jackets, while delivery motorcycles and bicycles must be fitted with reflective tapes or markers to ensure clear visibility on the road. The ministry has warned that designated enforcement agencies, including the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), will impose sanctions on violators.
Glovo Nigeria, a leading delivery service provider in Lagos, has expressed commitment to complying with the new safety measures. The company plans to provide 3,000 reflective vests free of charge to its couriers within the next month and is encouraging other delivery service providers to follow suit.
The Lagos State Government’s initiative aims to build a safer and more responsible delivery system across the state. The Ministry of Transportation welcomes collaboration with courier and delivery service providers to achieve this goal.
