The House of Representatives has demanded detailed evidence from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation regarding the N2.4 trillion approved for payment to contractors.
The request comes amid complaints from local contractors alleging that they have not received payments for completed projects.
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu disclosed the development after a meeting with affected contractors in Abuja, part of the House’s ongoing effort to address grievances over unpaid contract obligations. While the Accountant-General’s office confirmed that N2.4 trillion was approved, it stated that only N160 billion remains unpaid.
Kalu commended the government for approving such a substantial amount but stressed the need for transparency and accountability. He called on the Accountant-General to provide a comprehensive breakdown of payments made to ensure clarity and restore confidence among contractors.
He also questioned how contractors could still protest non-payment despite the large sums approved, emphasizing that verifying these payments is crucial for maintaining the integrity of government projects.
The House plans a follow-up review on October 5, 2025, to assess progress and ensure that all funds allocated for completed projects are properly disbursed and documented.
