The Federal Government has unveiled the official theme for Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary: “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation”.

This theme emphasizes the importance of unity, collaboration, and patriotism among government institutions, the private sector, civil society, and citizens to advance national peace, prosperity, and progress.

According to Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the theme reflects Nigeria’s resilience since independence in 1960 and highlights the need to consolidate past achievements while pursuing loftier goals under the Renewed Hope Agenda. “Nigeria at 65 is not just a time for celebration but also a reminder that the future of our nation rests in the hands of all citizens working together to achieve a stronger, more prosperous country,” Imohiosen said.

The government expects all agencies and partners to align their programs with the anniversary theme to ensure its message resonates across all spheres of national life. This collective effort aims to build a nation defined by sustainable peace, prosperity, and progress.

As part of the activities lined up for the 65th Independence celebrations, a Juma’at prayer will hold on Friday, September 26, at 1 pm, followed by an inter-denominational church service on Sunday, September 28, at 10 am. A World Press Conference will also be held on Monday, September 29, at 10 am.

The theme is a call to action, urging Nigerians to work together towards building a greater nation. By consolidating past achievements and pursuing loftier objectives, the government aims to forge a powerful nation for all citizens. “Since gaining independence on October 1, 1960, Nigeria has successfully navigated several challenges and achieved notable advancements in diverse sectors of the economy,” the government noted.

The 65th Independence Anniversary celebrations will serve as a reminder of Nigeria’s progress and a call to action for citizens to contribute to the country’s growth and development. As Imohiosen stated, “What we need now is a renewed collective effort to solidify these gains and pursue greater national aspirations.”
