Adebayo Declines To Join Anti Tinubu Coalition Over Ideological Differences

Prince Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has declined to join a coalition of opposition parties gearing up to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the general elections.

According to Adebayo, the coalition lacks a common ideology, and its members are largely driven by personal interests rather than a shared vision for Nigeria.

Adebayo expressed his disinclination to join the coalition, stating that he couldn’t in good conscience oppose Tinubu and embrace a group with no shared values or principles. “I cannot in good conscience oppose Tinubu and embrace coalition,” Adebayo said, emphasizing that the SDP’s focus is on promoting good governance, accountability, and public service, which differs from the coalition’s apparent goals.

The SDP chieftain urged Tinubu to focus on delivering good governance rather than worrying about the coalition. “The real thing that the president should worry about is the resentment of the people and the problems that people are facing in reality. It is not the coalition that has been putting pictures and billboards all over,” Adebayo said. He believes that Tinubu’s main concern should be the growing anger among Nigerians, rather than the coalition.

Adebayo criticized the coalition, saying it lacks a common ideology and its members are largely driven by personal interests rather than a shared vision for Nigeria. He emphasized that the SDP’s commitment is to promoting a new culture of politics in Nigeria, centered on transparency, accountability, and public service.

As the country approaches the elections, the SDP will continue to prioritize good governance and people’s welfare over partisan politics. Adebayo’s decision reflects the party’s commitment to promoting a new culture of politics in Nigeria. “We don’t have anything in common with them. There is no way in good conscience I can oppose Tinubu and embrace any of them,” Adebayo added.

Adebayo’s stance serves as a call to action for Nigerians to demand better governance and accountability from their leaders. By prioritizing the welfare of citizens and addressing pressing issues, the government can mitigate the growing discontent among the populace and work towards a more stable and prosperous future.

The SDP’s focus on good governance and accountability highlights the need for political parties to prioritize the welfare of citizens. Adebayo’s refusal to join the coalition underscores the importance of shared values and principles in politics.
