The Akwa Ibom State Government has denied reports alleging that security operatives attached to former Governor Udom Emmanuel were withdrawn on the orders of Governor Umo Eno.
The state described the claim as false, mischievous, and aimed at creating unnecessary tension within the state.
In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, the government said no such directive was issued and that the story circulating on social media was fabricated. “The Governor did not and could not have ordered the withdrawal of security details from the former Governor,” Umanah stated. “Security deployments are the responsibility of the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, not the Governor.”
He explained that all former governors of Akwa Ibom State remain entitled to adequate security protection as provided by law. “To the best of our knowledge, there has been no complaint or report from any former governor or their media aides about such withdrawal,” he said. “The rumour exists only in the imagination of those spreading it.”
The Commissioner added that the administration of Governor Umo Eno remains focused on governance and unity, not political distractions. “The Governor is committed to promoting peace and development across Akwa Ibom,” he noted. “These rumours are politically motivated attempts to sow discord.”
Umanah advised residents and the media to verify sensitive information before publication, stressing that spreading falsehood only undermines public confidence. He urged political actors to engage constructively rather than resorting to propaganda that could divide the state.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining cordial relations with all past leaders and ensuring that Akwa Ibom continues to enjoy stability and security. It also reiterated that law enforcement agencies, not the state government, determine the deployment of police officers for official protection.
