The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that over 6.8 million Nigerians have completed voter registration in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
As of October 5, a total of 6.85 million Nigerians had registered, with 1,216,048 completing their registration physically.
The registration process saw a significant participation of youths, with 897,676 registrations coming from individuals aged 18 to 34. Students also made up a substantial portion, with 424,126 completed registrations in Week 6. According to INEC, 4,689,637 of the pre-online registrations were youths between the ages of 18 and 34, while 1,728,384 were students.
The commission reported that 675,222 females, representing 55.53% of the total registrations, were registered, while 540,826 males, accounting for 44.47%, were also registered. In total, 3.58 million of the registered voters were female, representing 52.23%, while 3.27 million were male, representing 47.77%.
The physical registration process recorded 1,216,048 completed registrations, including 658,766 individuals who completed their process after initial online pre-registration and 557,282 who registered solely through the physical process. The commission confirmed that 17,450 Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) successfully completed their registration during the period under review.
INEC’s data highlights the enthusiasm of Nigerians to participate in the electoral process. The commission’s efforts to make voter registration accessible and convenient seem to be yielding positive results, with a significant number of registrations recorded.
