Tiwa Savage Denies Blocking Seyi Shay’s Opportunities, Says She Supports Women In Music

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Tiwa Savage has finally addressed her long-standing feud with fellow singer Seyi Shay, clarifying that she has never tried to hinder the progress or opportunities of any female artiste in the industry.

Speaking during her appearance on the Off-Air podcast with Gbemi O and Toolz, Tiwa stated that the rumors suggesting she blocked Seyi Shay’s “bag” were completely false.

The Somebody’s Son crooner explained that her issues with Seyi Shay began after a diss track surfaced, sparking tension between both singers. She said she found it hypocritical when Seyi tried to approach her warmly in public despite the unresolved misunderstanding. “If you do something to me, I will let you know. I don’t have to let you know online. I’m not going to pretend like you and I are cool in a salon when you did a diss track,” Tiwa said.

Addressing the rumors that she blocked endorsement or music deals meant for Seyi Shay and other female artistes, Tiwa expressed disappointment. “That was painful, and I didn’t know where it was coming from. I heard that they thought I blocked their bag. How? If you’ve heard from anybody that I tried to block your bag, mention the person so I can address it. I would never do that – I’m so pro-women,” she stated.

Tiwa also revealed that contrary to the claims, she once lost a major endorsement deal to Seyi Shay. “When I got pregnant and had Jamil, I was taken off a Pepsi campaign called Longer Throat, and Shay was booked on it. Go back and check it. I wasn’t mad about it. I just worked hard, got back in the gym, and focused on my comeback,” she explained.

The award-winning singer emphasized that she has always been a strong supporter of women in the entertainment industry, urging people to stop spreading false narratives that pit female artistes against each other. According to her, the industry thrives better when women collaborate instead of competing negatively.

The feud between Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay dates back to their viral confrontation at a Lagos salon in 2021, which sparked widespread conversation across social media. While both singers have since avoided public clashes, Tiwa’s latest comments suggest a willingness to move past the controversy.
