Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed why he chose Akwa Ibom State as the first stop for his much-anticipated “5IVE Tour Nigeria.”

Speaking at a pre-concert reception in Uyo on Sunday, hosted by Governor Umo Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Davido highlighted the state’s world-class infrastructure and serene environment as key factors in his decision. He noted that Akwa Ibom’s facilities stood out among other African cities, making it the ideal venue for his first major concert in Nigeria after 14 years in the music industry.

The concert kicked off at the 30,000-capacity Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, marking the start of Davido’s nationwide tour. The tour spans five major cities, with upcoming shows planned in Adamawa, Enugu, Ibadan, and Lagos, and will conclude on Christmas Day. This marks a significant homecoming for Davido, who has previously focused on international performances.

Expressing his excitement, Davido said, “I am excited; it is the best of its kind. We toured America already, and it was a great success, and we were looking for a good facility around Africa, and Akwa Ibom is one of the places that we found out.” He emphasized that the state’s top-notch facilities were a major reason for beginning the tour there.

Governor Umo Eno welcomed Davido’s decision, praising the artist for his contribution to the music industry and his role in inspiring the younger generation through dedication and consistency. He noted that hosting Davido’s concert would showcase Akwa Ibom as a hub for major entertainment events.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio also lauded Davido for his positive influence on young Nigerians and encouraged him to spotlight emerging Akwa Ibom artists during his international tours. He described Governor Eno as a youth- and sports-friendly leader, underlining the state’s commitment to creating opportunities for young talents.

The “5IVE Tour Nigeria” is seen as a landmark cultural homecoming for Davido, reinforcing his status as one of Africa’s most iconic musicians. Fans across the country are eagerly awaiting the remaining shows, which promise to celebrate music, culture, and national unity.
