UNILAG Bans Unauthorized Skitmaking and Content Creation on Campus

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced a ban on unauthorized video production activities on its campus, including within hostels and other facilities.

This directive, issued on October 22, 2025, aims to safeguard the institution’s academic environment and uphold its public image. The university has observed a rise in unapproved filming of skits, vox pops, and other content, which may misrepresent the university’s values and standards.

In a statement signed by Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, the Head of the Communication Unit, UNILAG emphasized the importance of obtaining prior approval for any filming activities. Requests should be submitted to the Communication Unit located on the 7th Floor of Senate House, Akoka campus. The university encourages creativity and responsible expression but insists that such activities must align with its established guidelines to ensure safety, decorum, and the integrity of its academic and residential spaces.

This move comes as universities increasingly serve as backdrops for social commentary and comedic content. Notably, UNILAG has produced some of Nigeria’s most popular skitmakers, including Muhammed Gilmore, who graduated in January 2024 with a BSc in Chemistry, and Chukwuebuka Emmanuel Amuzie, aka Brain Jotter, who completed his studies last year.

The university urges all members of its community and the general public to comply strictly with this directive in the interest of order, safety, and collective responsibility.

The decision has sparked discussions among students and content creators, with some expressing concerns over the limitations on creative expression, while others acknowledge the need for regulation to maintain the university’s reputation.
