Senator Natasha Akpoti–Uduaghan of Kogi Central has explained that her invitation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other senators to attend her second anniversary project inauguration was purely procedural and not a move toward reconciliation.
The invitation, sent through the Senate presiding officer, followed parliamentary tradition for notifying colleagues about constituency projects. Akpabio and others were invited to witness the inauguration of projects across Kogi Central Senatorial District.
Akpoti–Uduaghan emphasized that the invitation aimed to ensure inclusiveness and transparency. She stated: “I put out the invitation so it wouldn’t seem like I was celebrating in isolation. I’m a progressive person. Even with ongoing court cases, I continue to carry out my duties in the chamber and follow proper procedures.”
Speculation that the invite indicated a thaw in relations with Senate leadership was dismissed by the senator. She insisted that the announcement was standard practice, not an olive branch or a reconciliation effort.
The senator also reflected on her tenure, noting that she had spent six months away due to a suspension but has resumed full participation in legislative activities. She reaffirmed her commitment to delivering projects and empowerment initiatives to her constituents.
Projects set for commissioning include water facilities, street lights, transformers, police quarters, new schools, and two markets. A mega empowerment programme is scheduled for November 2, where about 2,000 beneficiaries will receive items such as electric vehicles, deep freezers, gas cookers, sewing machines, shoemaking kits, fishery ponds, and farming tools.
