INEC Confirms Soludo’s Triumph In Anambra Gubernatorial Race

“APGA Candidate Secures Landslide Victory, Winning All 21 Local Government Areas”

Awka, Anambra State — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally declared Professor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the winner of the November 8, 2025 governorship poll in Anambra State.

The Returning Officer, Edoba Omoregie, announced at the INEC office in Awka on Sunday that Chukwuma Soludo scored 422,664 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 99,445 votes. The candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Paul Chukwuma, came third with 37,753 votes.

Key Figures & Voter Statistics

  • Registered voters – 2,788,864

  • Accredited voters – 598,229

  • Votes cast – 595,298

  • Valid votes – 584,054

  • Rejected votes – 11,244

INEC noted there were cancellations in some wards across four local government areas — Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka South and Onitsha South — affecting about 10,481 votes, but the margin of victory was sufficiently large that the cancellations did not alter the outcome.

Sweep of the State

Remarkably, Soludo won all 21 local government areas in the state, according to INEC’s announcement. This shows a very broad geographic and political base of support throughout Anambra.

Reaction and Next Steps

In his acceptance speech, Soludo described the result as a mandate to continue and deepen his administration’s reforms in infrastructure, education and economic development across the state.

He also commended INEC and its newly appointed Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, saying the election was “the best that you have organised so far in Anambra”.

Significance & Implications

  • Soludo’s victory not only secures him a second term, but reinforces APGA’s dominance in Anambra’s political landscape.

  • The scale of the win (over 4 times the votes of his closest rival) gives the incoming term significant political capital for policy implementation.

  • Observers noted that while the election was largely peaceful and orderly, some issues such as vote‑buying and delayed starts were raised by civil society monitors.

Looking Ahead

Governor Chukwuma Soludo faces heightened expectations from the electorate, given the decisive nature of his win. Key challenges likely to dominate his second term include:

  • Sustaining momentum in infrastructure and service delivery.

  • Strengthening governance and transparency to justify the mandate.

  • Engaging effectively with critics and opposition parties to maintain consensus.

  • Ensuring voter trust remains high in future elections, especially with the reports of vote‑buying needing to be addressed.

This result marks a clear signal from the people of Anambra State — they have re‑entrusted Soludo and his administration with steering the state’s development agenda. The onus now shifts to fulfilling the promise.
