Youth at the Center of National Progress

President Bola Tinubu has reiterated that ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economy and institutions are designed to secure a prosperous future for the country’s youths. According to the President, these reforms will equip young Nigerians with skills that make them globally competitive and ready to take ownership of key economic initiatives.

Speaking at the State House in Abuja during a meeting with the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, President Tinubu emphasized that the youth remain central to the nation’s economic repositioning. “Their engagement and ownership of these reforms will drive Nigeria into a great future,” he stated.

International Collaboration and Recognition

Prince Edward, in his capacity as Chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, briefed President Tinubu about the upcoming international award ceremony in Lagos. The award recognizes the talents and efforts of young people in pursuing their passions, developing skills, and contributing to national development.

Three hundred and twenty Nigerian youths will be honored during the events, in partnership with the Lagos State Government. Prince Edward also commended President Tinubu’s economic reforms, which have drawn positive global attention, and highlighted the role of Minister of Finance, Wale Edun in championing youth-focused initiatives.

Reforms Focused on Skills and Education

President Tinubu underscored that the reforms are designed with growth, prosperity, and skills development in mind. “We have a special education loan fund that ensures no student is left behind. Our goal is to use education as a tool to reduce poverty,” he explained.

He noted that the reforms span multiple sectors, promoting harmony among stakeholders and long-term synergy to achieve national targets. Infrastructure projects, such as laying fiber optics, aim to improve access and integrate young people into Nigeria’s economic development.

Addressing Security and Inclusivity

In addition to economic and educational reforms, the government is actively tackling security challenges and crime, with notable results. President Tinubu thanked humanitarian agencies for assisting victims of terrorism in affected regions, reflecting a holistic approach to national development that considers both opportunity and safety.

Minister Edun highlighted Nigeria’s youthful demographic, noting that the median age is 17. Reforms have been deliberately structured to maximize participation, skill acquisition, and growth opportunities for young people.

The Global Impact of the Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a worldwide framework for non-formal education, empowering youth through skill development, resilience, and community service. Delivered through schools, youth organizations, and community groups, the award fosters global citizenship and personal growth, aligning closely with Nigeria’s reform agenda.

By linking national economic reforms with international recognition programs, Nigeria is setting the stage for a generation of skilled, confident, and globally competitive young citizens.
