President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State to sympathize with the state government and assure parents and guardians of the kidnapped schoolgirls that the government would ensure their quick release.
The President also sent his condolences to the military over the death of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other soldiers who paid the ultimate price while fighting insurgents in Borno State.
In a statement, President Tinubu expressed sadness over the abduction of the schoolgirls, despite intelligence warnings of a possible strike by the bandits. He commended Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for efforts made to avert the kidnapping.
The President urged communities across the country to share information and intelligence that would help security agencies make the communities safe. He noted that security forces cannot perform optimally without the support of Nigerians and local communities.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Waidi Shaibu, has directed troops to leave no stone unturned in the ongoing search-and-rescue operation for the abducted students.
The Senate has called for the urgent rescue of the abducted schoolgirls and asked President Tinubu to recruit at least 100,000 officers and men into the military to cope with security challenges.
The abduction of the schoolgirls has also been condemned by US lawmakers and the United Nations Emergency Fund, UNICEF.
The wife of the slain Vice Principal of Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State, Amina Hassan, narrated how her daughter escaped during the deadly attack that led to the abduction of 25 schoolgirls.
