Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, has assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu remains firmly committed to safeguarding the welfare and development of children across the country.

He gave this assurance during the UNICEF World Children’s Day celebration held in Abuja, where he emphasized that the President is prioritising long-term investments that will positively shape the future of young Nigerians.

Bagudu addressed growing national concerns following the recent abduction of students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State. He noted that despite the current security and economic challenges, the administration is determined to create a safer and more supportive environment for children. According to him, “despite the challenge of the moment, a great future lies ahead of them,” reaffirming the President’s belief in investing in child welfare and teacher education.

The minister added that President Tinubu is dedicated to ensuring that Nigerian children receive maximum support to thrive. He stated that the government’s policies and developmental programmes continue to reflect this priority. He stressed that the children of today must be better equipped than previous generations, as they represent the future strength of the nation.

Bagudu also called for prayers for the abducted students and other children currently in captivity around the world. He urged global leaders to recognize child abductions as an assault on humanity, one that requires urgent and collective international action. He insisted that protecting children must remain a shared global responsibility.

In her message marking World Children’s Day 2025, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu highlighted the importance of respecting and protecting the rights of children to build a fair and compassionate society. She encouraged Nigerians to recommit themselves to safeguarding every child’s wellbeing, stating that the day’s theme, “Listen to Children: My Day, My Rights,” reinforces the need to give children a meaningful platform to express their thoughts and aspirations.

Mrs Tinubu noted that children are not only future leaders but active contributors to society today. She said, “respecting children’s rights and protecting them are essential for building a fair and compassionate society,” adding that when adults genuinely listen to children, they gain valuable insight into how best to create a safer and more inclusive environment. She urged the nation to ensure that every child grows up with hope, confidence, and the freedom to reach their full potential.
