A new wave of violence has hit the education sector as armed terrorists launched an afternoon attack on Peter’s Foundation Secondary School in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, abducting an unspecified number of students.
The school, a Catholic-run institution, became the second target of coordinated attacks within hours, deepening concerns over worsening insecurity around learning facilities.
According to reports, the details of the Nasarawa attack remain unclear as security agencies and community members work frantically to contact the Nasarawa State Police Command for official confirmation. Eyewitnesses told Daily Sun that several students were taken by the attackers, but the exact number of abducted children is still unknown at this time.
This latest incident occurred barely hours after terrorists invaded St. Mary’s School, another Catholic institution located in Papiri community, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State. During the early-morning raid, which reportedly happened between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m., a large number of students and members of staff were taken away by the gunmen.
Initial accounts from locals suggest that more than 100 students and staff may have been kidnapped from St. Mary’s School. However, authorities say the final tally of victims has not yet been confirmed as security operatives continue their assessment and investigations into the attack.
The repeated, near-simultaneous assaults on two Catholic schools in different states have triggered widespread anxiety among parents, school administrators, and residents. Community members have described the incidents as a troubling escalation, coming at a time when safety concerns are already at an all-time high.
Following the attacks, schools across the Rukubi area have reportedly been shut down immediately as a precautionary measure. Authorities are urging communities to remain calm while security agencies intensify efforts to track the attackers and rescue the abducted students.
