Thousands of passengers across Europe are grounded as major airlines, including British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, KLM, and Swiss, report over 65 flight cancellations and 1,824 delays.

Airports in Manchester, Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich, Brussels, and other major cities are experiencing disruptions due to a combination of operational challenges and adverse weather conditions, leaving travelers struggling to find alternative arrangements.

KLM reported the highest number of disruptions among European carriers, with 15 flights canceled and 307 delayed, accounting for 44 % of its flights. Lufthansa recorded 331 delayed flights, while Air France experienced 268 delays, representing 42 % of its schedules. Smaller carriers were also affected, with TAROM canceling 17 % of its flights and Air Iceland Connect facing 14 % cancellations. British Airways, Swiss, Pegasus Airlines, and Norwegian Air Sweden also reported significant delays, highlighting the widespread impact on passengers across the continent.

Major airports were hit hard, with Amsterdam Schiphol experiencing 10 cancellations and 223 delays, Zurich recording 2 cancellations and 166 delays, and London Heathrow facing 4 cancellations and 223 delays. Brussels Airport had 5 cancellations and 104 delays, while Manchester Airport reported 2 cancellations and 115 delays. Other affected airports include Bucharest Henri Coandă International, Copenhagen, Oslo Gardermoen, and Timișoara Traian Vuia, demonstrating the broad scale of the disruptions across Europe.

Airline and airport authorities cited staffing shortages, adverse weather, and air traffic congestion as the main causes of the disruptions. The combination of these factors has created operational challenges for both large and smaller carriers, resulting in significant delays and cancellations. Travelers are advised to check with their airlines before heading to airports and plan for possible adjustments to their itineraries.

Passengers are being urged to closely monitor flight updates, prepare for potential rebookings, and allow extra time for travel. With the situation still evolving, airlines and airports continue to work on clearing the backlog, but additional delays are expected in the coming days.
