The United States has formally assumed the presidency of the Group of 20 (G20) on December 1, launching a year-long leadership role that the White House says will emphasize economic growth, regulatory reform, and innovation.
The announcement, made as the U.S. begins preparing to host next year’s G20 Leaders’ Summit in Miami, marks the start of a presidency U.S. officials say will “return the G20 to its core mission of driving economic growth and prosperity.” President Donald Trump, will oversee the agenda for the 2026 summit cycle.
According to the administration, the U.S. will center its G20 priorities on three themes: reducing regulatory burdens to “unleash economic prosperity,” strengthening affordable and secure global energy supply chains, and advancing emerging technologies and innovation across member nations.
The Miami summit—scheduled during the United States’ 250th anniversary year—is expected to bring together leaders from the world’s largest economies to address shared financial, technological, and geopolitical challenges.
