Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd), has reaffirmed that the country is safe and secure, assuring citizens that they will begin to witness tangible improvements in national security in the near future. He gave the assurance on Thursday in Abuja while addressing journalists shortly after taking the oath of office as Minister of Defence.

General Musa, a former Chief of Defence Staff, emphasized that strengthening coordination among the armed forces and various security agencies will be central to his mission at the ministry. He stressed that security is a collective responsibility and urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and supportive of the nation’s security architecture.

“My immediate priority is to ensure defence takes its rightful place in the country. I assure Nigerians that results will be seen within the shortest possible time. I can guarantee that Nigeria is safe and secure,” he said.

He revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed him to ensure that citizens can once again sleep peacefully, return to their farms, and send their children to school without fear. According to the Minister, this directive reflects the administration’s commitment to restoring normalcy and improving the quality of life across all regions.

General Musa noted that the Armed Forces of Nigeria have already intensified operations nationwide, working in close synergy with intelligence agencies to combat terrorism, banditry, oil theft, and other forms of criminality. He highlighted recent gains achieved through coordinated land, air, and maritime operations, describing them as “evidence of measurable improvements in national security indicators.”

Communities in some frontline states, he added, have begun to report enhanced safety, with displaced families gradually returning to their homes—a development he attributes to the resilience of Nigerian troops and growing public cooperation.

Reiterating the government’s unwavering commitment to securing the nation, General Musa assured that the Ministry of Defence under his leadership will focus on modernising military hardware, expanding surveillance capabilities, and improving troop welfare to further strengthen operational effectiveness.

“Nigerians can be confident that their country is safe. Our troops are working tirelessly to ensure peace and stability. We are not relenting,” he concluded.

With renewed leadership and a sharpened security strategy, the Defence Minister pledged that Nigeria is on a firm path toward lasting peace, unity, and national security.

May Nigeria succeed.
