Presidency Reaffirms Gbajabiamila As Chief Of Staff

Presidency urges public to disregard fake news, says no change in leadership roles

Presidency Debunks Viral Social Media Claim

The Presidency has firmly dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has replaced his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, with the Principal Private Secretary, Hakeem Muri-Okunola. Officials described the report as a viral falsehood and urged Nigerians to ignore it.

“There Is Absolutely No Truth to This Story”

In a clear and emphatic statement, the Presidency stressed that there has been no change in the leadership structure at the State House.

“The Chief of Staff remains in his position. The Principal Private Secretary likewise remains in his role. Hakeem Muri-Okunola has not replaced Femi Gbajabiamila as Chief of Staff,” the statement said.

Fake News Aimed at Creating Disharmony

According to the Presidency, the claim was deliberately fabricated by mischievous purveyors of fake news, whose sole objective is to sow confusion and create disharmony within the government. It warned that such misinformation undermines public trust and distracts from the work of governance.

Why the Clarification Became Necessary

The response followed the rapid spread of unverified reports suggesting an internal reshuffle within the President’s inner circle. The Presidency said the speed and reach of the misinformation made it necessary to set the record straight without delay.

Gbajabiamila’s Role Remains Intact

Femi Gbajabiamila, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, was appointed Chief of Staff in June 2023. He continues to coordinate presidential activities, manage the President’s schedule, and serve as a key link between the President and other arms of government.

Muri-Okunola Continues as Principal Private Secretary

Similarly, Hakeem Muri-Okunola remains the Principal Private Secretary to the President, with no alteration to his responsibilities or status.

Presidency Warns Media, Urges Verification

The Presidency reiterated its call on media organisations and social media users to always verify information before publishing or sharing, particularly on sensitive matters involving government officials.

No Shake-Up at the State House

With this clarification, the Presidency has decisively put to rest speculation about any personnel changes, reaffirming that Gbajabiamila remains Chief of Staff and that the President’s administrative team remains stable and intact.
