“Boxing Star, Anthony Joshua Shaken By Deadly Car Accident — Uncle Comments”

“Family members reveal the emotional toll of a fatal car crash, leaving the boxing star’s future in doubt.”

Nigeria-British heavyweight boxing star, Anthony Joshua, is facing the most difficult crossroads of his career after a tragic car crash that claimed the lives of two of his closest friends and long‑time team members, leaving the 36‑year‑old fighter emotionally shaken and raising questions about his future in the sport.

Crash in Nigeria Leaves Friends Dead, Joshua Injured

On December 29, 2025, Joshua was travelling on the busy Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway when the Lexus SUV he was a passenger in collided with a stationary truck. The crash killed strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Latif “Latz” Ayodele, both respected figures in Joshua’s corner for more than a decade.

Joshua sustained minor injuries and was treated at a hospital in Lagos before being discharged on December 31 and allowed to recuperate at home. Representatives say he remains in “stable condition,” but the emotional toll appears profound.

Family’s Perspective — Deep Shock and Pain

Speaking to media, members of Joshua’s family, including his uncles, confirmed the devastating impact of the accident on the boxer and his loved ones.

One uncle, Robert Joshua, said that family members have not yet been permitted to visit Anthony in hospital but were kept updated by authorities.

Another relative, Adedamola Joshua, said the crash “shook our family deeply” and highlighted the profound loss of Joshua’s two close friends.

While there has been buzz online about the possibility of Joshua ending his boxing career, there is no verified statement from him confirming retirement.

Some fan videos and social media posts speculate about retirement after the tragedy, but official sources have not reported that he has formally decided to quit boxing.

Emotional Aftermath and Boxing Future in Question

Though Joshua has not publicly declared an intention to retire, sports commentators and insiders have noted that the emotional trauma of losing two close allies could reshape his priorities. He described feeling physical pain following the crash, an experience that might deepen his reflection about the risks and demands of a boxing career.

Adding to the speculation were online videos and commentary suggesting Joshua might consider stepping away from the sport; however, these remain unverified and speculative at this time.

Support From the Boxing World

Boxing peers and rivals alike have expressed sympathy and support for Joshua in recent days. Icons like Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, as well as recent opponent Jake Paul, shared condolences and encouragement following the tragedy.

What’s Next?

As of early January 2026:

  • Joshua is back in the United Kingdom to be with family and support the funerals of Ghami and Ayodele.

  • Legal proceedings are expected in Nigeria as the driver of the vehicle faces charges related to the crash.

  • Fans, pundits, and the boxing community are watching closely for any statement from Joshua on his professional future — whether he returns to the ring or steps away after this profound personal loss.

Bottom line:

The crash has undeniably cast deep emotional and psychological clouds over Joshua’s future in boxing. While his uncle and others have spoken about family trauma and shock, there is no confirmed announcement that he has decided to quit boxing.

Any retirement decision would likely come from Joshua himself.
