The attention of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has been drawn to misinformation circulating in relation to SMS notifications about the commencement of the “Operation Go Cashless” initiative.

A counter-message currently being shared warns recipients not to open the SMS link, alleging that it is a scam designed to drain bank accounts. FAAN categorically states that this claim is false, misleading, and entirely unfounded.

The SMS Is Legitimate — Not a Scam

The official SMS notification informing members of the public about the implementation of Operation Go Cashless is genuine.

The messages were duly disseminated by FAAN in partnership with MN Nigeria as part of a nationwide public sensitisation campaign.

The counter-message suggesting otherwise does not originate from FAAN and should be disregarded.

March 1, 2026: Official Take-Off Date

For the avoidance of doubt, Operation Go Cashless officially commences on March 1, 2026.

The authorised SMS messages communicating this start date form part of FAAN’s structured transition to a fully cashless, contactless payment system across all airport payment points nationwide.

There is no hidden agenda. There is no fraudulent intent. The communication is official and verified.

Why “Operation Go Cashless” Matters

This initiative marks a major step in FAAN’s digital transformation drive and is designed to:
  • Enhance operational efficiency

  • Strengthen financial transparency

  • Reduce security risks associated with cash handling

  • Improve passenger convenience

  • Promote faster, safer, contactless transactions

By eliminating cash transactions across airport facilities, FAAN is aligning Nigeria’s airports with global best practices in modern airport management.

Security Remains a Top Priority

FAAN understands public sensitivity to digital fraud and online scams. In today’s information environment, false alerts can spread rapidly and create unnecessary panic.

However, the SMS in question is part of a coordinated, secure, and officially sanctioned communication campaign. The misinformation being circulated is not based on fact.

Passengers and stakeholders are encouraged to verify information through FAAN’s official platforms before sharing unconfirmed claims.

The Bottom Line

  • The SMS notification is authentic.

  • Operation Go Cashless begins March 1, 2026.

  • The counter-message alleging fraud is false.

FAAN remains fully committed to transparency, passenger convenience, and the safety and security of all airport users.

For further clarification and official updates, members of the public are advised to rely solely on FAAN’s verified communication channels.
