How Would You Know It If You Were Showering Wrong?

Is it really possible to shower the wrong way?

We all shower every day (at least that’s the hope) and it goes without saying that it is a simple task that can’t be done wrong except of course if you are four years old. But as it turns out, there is the right way and wrong way of doing everything. We just have to live with this.

Here are the common showering mistakes that you should never make.

5 Showering Mistakes You Shouldn’t Make

Here are the showering mistakes, according to experts that you should not make:

Duration of shower

While it may feel pleasant to stand under a warm stream of water, experts say that lingering in there for too long might be harmful to your skin. Long periods in the shower (20 minutes and more) could cause your skin to lose a lot of natural oil and cause it to become dry. Experts say that if your skin is dry there is a possibility you are spending too much time in the shower and reducing the duration to five or ten minutes might change everything.

Frequency

Studies have found that bathing too frequently can cause your skin to degrade and feel itchy. Bathing more than once or twice a day can remove good bacteria from your skin and cause bad germs to enter via split skin. As it turns out, unsanitary to a degree is good for your immune system.

Morning Vs evening shower

While rationale dictates that most people shower in the morning to start their day, a study published in Sleep Medicine Reviews found that a 10-minute warm shower one or two hours before you go to sleep is better than showering in the morning. (This is for those of us that shower only once a day. Ahem.) Pre-bed shower can help you sleep faster and better and it can help wash pollen off your hair and skin.

Wrong products

Yes, we have all switched to more cleansing and disinfecting sort of products during the Covid-19 pandemic, but over-cleansing is bad for you. Regular soap also contains antibacterial properties and is capable to ward off infections. There is no need to opt for anything harsher. Let’s go back to simpler times.

Right temperature

While nobody is advising you to take a cold shower at five in the morning, blisteringly hot showers have been discovered to deplete your skin of natural oils and lipids, which help it retain moisture and keep beautiful. It can make your skin itchy and dry.
