Chamomile was described in medical writings of ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome as a medicinal herb.

In traditional folk remedy, chamomile tea has always been used to treat health issues connected to anxiety, digestion, and insomnia among others.

Scientific researchers have been exploring the effectiveness of chamomile tea in managing health issues. Scientific interest has yielded results showing that chamomile tea has clear benefits among alternative remedies.

Although it is safe to drink, chamomile tea should only be used as a supplement for medical treatment in people with serious health problems.

People with these conditions should not take chamomile tea without a medical doctor’s approval.

Severe allergies

Chamomile may contain pollen from various plants which can trigger strong allergic reactions.

However mild, allergic reactions to chamomile products should not be taken lightly. This is because allergic reactions may get worse with time.

Babies and children

Like honey and other natural products, chamomile tea may contain botulism spores. This infection is very hard for young ones to fight compared to adults.

Benefits of a night pot of chamomile tea

Chamomile tea can be taken at any time. However, it may work best at night because it can stimulate sleep and relaxation. Also because combined with sleep, its impact may be significant.

Reducing menstrual pain

Taking chamomile tea at night can improve the quality of sleep when you are on your period. In fact, taking the tea has been linked to less pain from menstrual cramps over time. In a 2010 study, women who took chamomile tea for a month reported less distress during their period.

Reducing inflammation

When the body is struggling with inflammation from an infection, chamomile tea can help lessen the immune system’s reaction. It may be more effective through the night since the body is not struggling with other activities or major functions.

Improve sleep and relaxation

It is widely associated with relaxation properties and improved sleep quality. Although more clinical trials are still needed to confirm this, a review showed that cardiovascular patients fell asleep shortly after taking chamomile tea.

A number of researchers associate chamomile tea’s relaxation effects with benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines are prescription drugs used to induce sleep and reduce anxiety.

Treating cold symptoms

Chamomile tea can boost healing from symptoms of the common cold. Studies suggest that inhaling steam from chamomile extract can offer some relief from symptoms.

Relief from mild skin conditions

Some budget suggest that chamomile extract can assist in wound healing. This is also in relation to findings that chamomile ointments may offer relief from eczema and mild skin inflammations and conditions.
