U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, is set to participate in the Africa Climate Summit, taking place in Nairobi. The summit will bring together leaders, ministers, and representatives from civil society across African nations to address the pressing climate crisis.
Secretary Kerry will use this platform to emphasise the United States’ commitment to tackling climate change through President Biden’s Emergency Plan for Adaptation and Resilience (PREPARE), initiative. This initiative aims to assist half a billion people in developing countries, with a particular focus on Africa, in adapting to the effects of climate change within this decade.
Additionally, Secretary Kerry will shed light on the pivotal role of carbon market initiatives like the Energy Transition Accelerator (ETA). These initiatives are instrumental in mobilising private capital and expediting the transition to clean energy in developing nations.
From Africa, John Kerry is slated to participate in the Three Seas Initiative summit held in Bucharest. This gathering is geared towards bolstering transportation, energy, and digital infrastructure connections among European nations located in the region spanning the Baltic, Adriatic, and Black Seas.
He will emphasise the promise of new, secure, and safe nuclear technologies. Romania’s leadership in constructing the first small modular reactor (SMR), in Europe will be highlighted as a significant milestone in this regard.
