President Biden made a visit to Tel Aviv to express unwavering support for the people of Israel in the wake of a recent terrorist attack by Hamas.
The president’s visit also aimed to address the pressing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which has left Palestinian families without access to clean water, medical treatment, or safe shelter. Ensuring that Gaza’s residents receive life-saving aid and that civilians are protected in accordance with international humanitarian law is a top priority.
During the visit, President Biden announced that the United States is allocating $100 million in humanitarian assistance to aid the Palestinian people affected by the conflict in Gaza and those in the West Bank.
This funding, administered through USAID and the U.S. Department of State, will support displaced and other conflict-affected Palestinian individuals by providing safe water, emergency food, shelter, hygiene assistance, and healthcare services.
The assistance will also include psychosocial support and additional humanitarian protection services, with a particular focus on women and children.
According to the President, the United States will collaborate with trusted partners, including UN agencies and international non-governmental organisations, to ensure the efficient delivery of humanitarian aid.
The U.S. is actively working with the United Nations, Israel, and Egypt to facilitate the delivery of life-saving assistance to Gaza, where it will be distributed to those in need.
