The U.S. government, in line with President Biden’s commitment at the 2022 U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit, is accelerating its efforts under the African Democratic and Political Transitions (ADAPT), initiative.
The focus is on providing enhanced political and technical support for democratic transitions across the African continent.
The latest announcement is particularly centered on Guinea, where the U.S. government is actively deploying ADAPT resources to assist the nation in its transition to democratic governance by January 1, 2025. The initiative aims to offer crucial technical assistance for the ongoing development of a new constitution and the preparation for transparent and equitable elections.
Additionally, it seeks to establish the foundations for robust and inclusive democratic institutions.
Recognizing the widespread popularity of democracy in Africa, the United States is aligning its efforts with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, emphasizing the promotion of democratic principles and practices. The commitment extends to providing substantial support to regional bodies, transition governments, democratic movements, and civil society, all working towards common democratic objectives.
As the ADAPT initiative gains momentum in Guinea, the U.S. government expresses its dedication to expanding this initiative to other countries.
