The Osun State Government has refuted allegations that Governor Ademola Adeleke suspended Chief Judge Justice Oyebola Ojo.
Contrary to this denial, Justice Ojo has been suspended, and Governor Adeleke directed Justice Yinka Afolabi to assume an acting capacity pending an investigation by the Osun State House of Assembly.
The state government, represented by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Kolapo Alimi, issued a statement on Friday clarifying that the petition and initial actions against the Chief Judge had been forwarded to the National Judicial Council (NJC).
Alimi emphasized that Governor Adeleke did not defy any court order and that the State House of Assembly, which confirmed Justice Adepele Ojo’s appointment, was not involved in any ongoing case or court order.
Alimi stated, “All that is being posted online are mere stunts as the government is not aware of any pending case at this material moment.”
He further asserted that the funds under investigation, appropriated by the State House of Assembly, were subject to constitutional inquiry, and representation had been made to the NJC regarding the situation.
Highlighting the State Assembly’s resolution for the Chief Judge to step aside during the investigation, Alimi explained that the Governor appointed an Acting Chief Judge in line with constitutional provisions.
He assured the public that appropriate steps would be taken upon the conclusion of the State Assembly’s investigation, emphasizing the Governor’s commitment to the rule of law.
Alimi concluded by noting that the Governor would respond appropriately when served with court processes.
