Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently presiding over the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the State House in Abuja.
This gathering marks the fourth NEC meeting since the commencement of the Bola Tinubu administration, with a notable attendance of virtually all members.
The NEC includes the governors of the 36 states of the federation, along with ministers responsible for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Finance.
Additionally, key figures such as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) are part of the council.
As the meeting commenced, notable absentees were Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu. However, the majority of governors are present, with exceptions from Akwa Ibom, Kano, Lagos, Enugu, Osun, Borno, Nasarawa, and Adamawa States, which are represented by their deputies.
This month’s NEC meeting is anticipated to be the last for the year 2023. The discussions are expected to cover various economic matters and strategic considerations for the nation’s development.
