The Honourable Minister of State for Youth Development has affirmed the commitment of the federal government to enhance the conditions of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps across the country.

The minister made this commitment during an unscheduled visit to the NYSC orientation camp in Yikpata, Kwara State, on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.

Expressing concern over the deplorable state of some NYSC camps nationwide, Hon. Olawande pledged to collaborate with relevant authorities to revamp the Kwara State orientation camp and others throughout the country.

During the visit, Mr. Olawande apologized to corps members for the unacceptable condition of their camps, acknowledging it as an issue that requires attention from all stakeholders.

He thanked the corps members for their resilience and assured them that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to supporting and encouraging young people.

The minister emphasized the government’s dedication to empowering the youth and highlighted the importance of putting youth in charge of youth affairs.

He encouraged corps members, stating, “If I can be a Minister, you all can become whatever you wish to be, and the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will continue to encourage young people.”

Addressing concerns about the future of the youth, Mr. Olawande assured them that the Tinubu administration would provide answers and support to ensure they lead decent lives as graduates.

The State Coordinator of NYSC in Kwara State, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa, expressed satisfaction with the minister’s visit, describing it as a morale booster.

He welcomed the prospects of the minister’s pledge to revitalize the NYSC and improve its operations, particularly focusing on camp facilities.

Before departing the camp, the minister interacted with corps members, visited the Mami market, and purchased food items that were distributed to them.

Additionally, he inspected the kitchen, hostels, and the clinic as part of his commitment to addressing the needs of the NYSC members and improving their overall experience during the orientation period.
