President Bola Tinubu has affirmed his unwavering commitment to ensuring the security of Nigeria, pledging to provide continuous support to the military in its efforts to address the nation’s security challenges.

President Tinubu made this statement at the Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference 2023 in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Monday. Emphasizing his determination, he stated that the battle to keep Nigeria secure is one he will not lose, vowing to work diligently towards achieving this goal.

Acknowledging the dedication of the Nigerian Army to national security, President Tinubu urged the military to maintain a non-partisan stance while remaining vigilant in upholding democratic principles, especially during elections.

He commended the Armed Forces for their professional conduct during recent elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States, emphasizing their crucial role as guardians of constitutional order and democracy.

The President expressed satisfaction with the civilian-military projects underway across the country, highlighting their significance in fostering mutual understanding between the military and civilians while tangibly improving living conditions.

President Tinubu pointed to recent procurement of new aircraft as evidence of his commitment to enhancing national defense capability. He affirmed his administration’s dedication to advancing the ongoing modernization process within the military, with a specific focus on improving mobility, communications, and offensive striking capabilities.

Grateful for the service and sacrifice of the armed forces, President Tinubu recalled his approval of N18 billion in Group Life Assurance benefits for families of fallen heroes. He pledged continuous government support for the welfare of serving personnel and their families.

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, commended President Tinubu for empowering the armed forces and enhancing intra-military collaboration. He expressed gratitude for the President’s Renewed Hope agenda, emphasizing the increased commitment and morale of the armed forces under his leadership.

Acknowledging the achievements of ongoing military operations in various parts of the country, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, assured the President that the conference would play a pivotal role in formulating long-term strategies to strengthen the military’s ability to fulfill its constitutional responsibility in the year 2024.
