Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding the relocation of certain CBN departments from Abuja to Lagos.

Sanusi highlights a potential challenge facing the CBN as he suggests that a significant portion of the bank’s workforce, particularly individuals with ties to politically exposed families, may be hesitant to relocate.
According to Sanusi, these employees might prioritize their lifestyle in Abuja over their professional responsibilities, leading to a potential wave of resignations.
In defense of the relocation, Sanusi describes it as an “eminently sensible move” and emphasizes the importance of the current CBN management maintaining a strategic stance.
He advises against yielding to external pressures and urges the leadership to be prepared for personnel adjustments if necessary.
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has also expressed concerns about the relocation, alleging a deliberate plot against the Northern region.
While Sanusi acknowledges regional considerations, he encourages a comprehensive analysis of the situation, emphasizing the need for strategic decision-making to ensure the CBN’s continued effectiveness.
