On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate in the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government.
Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, said that the summit’s agenda includes discussions on institutional reforms within the African Union as well as strategies for fostering peace and security across the continent. Tinubu is anticipated to engage in deliberations concerning specific thematic areas such as climate change and the African Union’s role in the G20.
The summit’s theme, “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa,” reflects a collective commitment to enhancing educational outcomes across Africa.
In addition to his participation in AU sessions, President Tinubu will also attend an extraordinary summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) in his capacity as the regional body’s Chairman. This underscores Nigeria’s leadership role in promoting regional integration and cooperation.
“He will be accompanied on the trip by some ministers and other top government officials, and he is expected to return to Abuja following the summit,” said Ngelale. Tinubu’s visit to Ethiopia will make it his fourth African state visit in Africa since assuming the presidency nine months ago.
