In a startling revelation, a new book titled “Working with Buhari,” authored by former presidential media aide Femi Adesina, has shed light on a $10 million mishap during former
President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure. The book delves into how Buhari mistakenly approved funds for the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET) to award a contract to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) Limited.
According to the book, the former Managing Director of NBET, Marilyn Amobi, brought to Buhari’s attention a $10 million gas contract error, which was a Partial Risk Guarantee (PRG) from the World Bank. The contract is intended for Accugas to supply natural gas to Calabar Generation Company Limited, under the NDPHC’s purview.
Buhari, upon realising the oversight, reportedly attributed the mistake to his advisors. However, the book did not elaborate on any repercussions faced by those responsible for the erroneous advice.
This revelation comes amidst recent disclosures by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, who revealed the forgery of Buhari’s signature to withdraw over $6 million from the Central Bank of Nigeria under the watch of Godwin Emefiele. The funds were purportedly utilized to compensate foreign election observers during the 2023 general elections.
The publication of Adesina’s book adds another layer to the scrutiny surrounding financial oversight and decision-making within Nigeria’s political landscape.
