In a bid to revolutionize trade facilitation and bolster revenue generation, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is intensifying efforts through its Trade Modernization Project (TMP), leveraging cutting-edge technological advancements.
Chaired by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, a recent committee meeting convened at the Customs Corporate Headquarters in Abuja revealed strides towards the end-to-end automation of NCS processes and procedures.
The TMP encompasses a comprehensive suite of initiatives including the Unified Customs Management System, Trade Portal, and Cargo Release System, alongside automation services integrating Big Data & AI, and Document Management System.
CGC Adeniyi spoke about the role of the project in adapting to evolving market dynamics, optimizing operations, and fostering transparency.
“The TMP is a milestone set to transform trade facilitation, unlocking new revenue streams while enhancing efficiency,” CGC Adeniyi affirmed. Designed to span twenty years across three phases, the project aims to address operational challenges and propel the service forward through informed decision-making.
Chairman of the Trade Modernization Project Limited, Saleh Ahmadu, echoed unwavering support for the NCS, citing the development of software to integrate revenue collection, aligning with the service’s ambitious target of N6 trillion by 2024. Despite facing challenges such as foreign exchange sourcing, Ahmadu expressed confidence in the steering committee’s resolve to overcome obstacles.
“We are committed partners to the Nigeria Customs Service, spearheading transformative changes in trade facilitation,” Ahmadu stated. “With the support of the steering committee, we are poised to achieve our objectives and propel the service into a new era of efficiency and revenue generation.”
