It has been revealed that a teacher who was abducted alongside the Kuriga schoolchildren in the Chikun Local Area of Kaduna State has tragically lost his life while in captivity.
This grim disclosure was made by the state governor, Senator Uba Sani, during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program.
Governor Uba Sani disclosed that all the schoolchildren, numbering 137, who were abducted by the terrorists have been successfully rescued by the military in collaboration with local authorities, with the assistance of neighboring Zamfara State. The abduction occurred on March 7, 2024, and the children spent a harrowing 17 days in captivity.
Expressing his regret over the teacher’s demise, Governor Sani clarified that while all 137 children have returned safely, the teacher, unfortunately, succumbed to health complications during the period of captivity. According to reports from military and security agencies, the teacher’s health deteriorated, leading to his untimely passing.
“The sad reality is that we have lost one individual, the teacher. All of the 137 children are safely back,” stated Governor Sani.
In the wake of their rescue, the 137 schoolchildren have been transported to the state capital and are currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed medical facility in Kaduna. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by educators and students in regions plagued by insecurity, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive security measures to safeguard educational institutions and their inhabitants.
