Eight former local government chairmen in Edo State have made a significant political move by returning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after previously defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside Governor Godwin Obaseki in 2020.
John Akhigbe, Dr. Josie Ogedegbe, Frank Ilaboya, Andrew Osigwe, Napoleon Agbama, Scott Ogbemudia, Austin Okoibhole, and Mrs. Ruth Osahor, all former local government chairmen, expressed their allegiance to the APC and pledged to contribute to the party’s success in the upcoming September 21, 2024 election.
The returning politicians were warmly received at the Benin residence of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the leader of the APC, along with the party’s governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, his running mate, Dennis Idahosa, and the acting state Chairman of the party, Jaret Tenebe.
Senator Oshiomhole welcomed the returnees, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the APC and expressing his delight at their decision to rejoin the party. He highlighted their past contributions to governance and assured them of their place within the APC family.
In response, Frank Ilaboya, speaking on behalf of the returnees, described their return as a “homecoming” and expressed gratitude for the support and opportunities provided to them by Senator Oshiomhole.
He affirmed their commitment to work towards the realization of the APC’s objectives under the leadership of Senator Okpebholo and Idahosa.
The return of these former local government chairmen is expected to bolster the APC’s political strength in Edo State as they bring with them their experience and influence in grassroots politics.
