In the ongoing saga of Kaduna State’s debt crisis, former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has intensified pressure on the state government to hold former Governor Nasir El-Rufai accountable for the state’s staggering debt profile.
Senator Uba Sani, the current governor, recently highlighted the dire financial situation inherited from the previous administration, emphasizing the inability to meet salary and pension obligations due to the immense debt burden.
Calling for decisive action, Shehu Sani urged Governor Uba Sani to establish an independent probe panel to scrutinize the financial dealings of the past administration, specifically focusing on the exorbitant debt left behind.
Governor Uba Sani disclosed during a recent Town Hall meeting in Kaduna that the inherited debt stood at $587 million, N85 billion, alongside 115 contractual liabilities, severely hampering the state’s financial flexibility.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Shehu Sani emphasized the need for a thorough investigation led by a credible professional accountant or auditor. He insisted on holding former government officials and associated contractors accountable for the alleged misuse or misappropriation of funds, including the controversial $350 million loan.
In a statement, Shehu Sani underscored the significance of confronting the truth surrounding Kaduna State’s financial mismanagement, suggesting that his prior warnings had been vindicated by the current predicament.
