As the legal proceedings surrounding former President Donald Trump’s alleged hush-money payment to Stormy Daniels unfold, the jury selection process becomes the focal point.
Judge Juan Merchan, overseeing the trial scheduled to commence on April 15, released a comprehensive questionnaire aimed at ensuring a fair and impartial jury.
The questionnaire delves into various aspects, probing prospective jurors on their affiliations, political beliefs, and attitudes towards Trump and the case. Questions range from attendance at Trump rallies to associations with groups like the Proud Boys or Antifa.
Prospective jurors are also asked about their opinions on whether a former president can be criminally charged in state court and their perceptions of Trump’s treatment in the case.
Standard preliminary questions on marital status, employment, hobbies, and criminal history are also included. Notably, Merchan has adopted an approach from the Trump Organization trial, excusing any jurors who self-identify as unfair or partial.
In addition to the questionnaire, Merchan provided a summary of the allegations to be read to prospective jurors. The summary outlines the accusation that Trump falsified business records to conceal payments to Michael Cohen, intended to silence Stormy Daniels about her alleged affair with Trump before the 2016 election. Trump has pleaded not guilty to these charges.
