Taiwan and Nigeria are set to embark on a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing economic cooperation and knowledge transfer between the two nations.

Reports from Vanguard indicate that the initiative was unveiled during a Knowledge Sharing Workshop on E-health, Agriculture, and Cyber Security, organized by the Taiwan Trade Mission in collaboration with the Taiwan Friendship Association in Nigeria. Held in Abuja, the event highlighted the potential for collaboration between Taiwan, renowned for its technological advancements, and Nigeria, boasting the largest economy in Africa and a burgeoning population.

Speaking at the workshop, Ambassador Andy Yih-Ping Liu of the Taipei Trade Office Stated the multifaceted nature of the partnership, emphasizing cooperation in key sectors such as technology, agriculture, and infrastructure development. He stressed that beyond economic benefits, the collaboration would contribute to regional peace and stability.

Ambassador Liu outlined Taiwan’s success story in developing its economy despite limited natural resources, citing it as a valuable model for Nigeria’s economic diversification efforts. He emphasized Taiwan’s readiness to share expertise in areas such as small and medium enterprise (SME) development, women empowerment, and youth capacity building through education and vocational training.

President Emmanuel Ohiomokhare of the Taiwan Friendship Association in Nigeria highlighted the initiative’s aim to facilitate knowledge transfer to young Nigerians.

Over nearly two decades, the Taiwan government has sponsored Nigerian professionals to enhance their expertise through workshops, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs in Taiwan. Many of these individuals have since returned to Nigeria, applying their newfound knowledge to various fields.
