Ijaw Leader Edwin Clark Urges APC And PDP To Reign In FCT Minister Nyesom Wike To Prevent Crisis In Rivers State

Edwin Clark, a prominent Ijaw leader, has called on the national chairmen of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, to address the actions of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Clark expressed concern that Wike’s recent statements in Rivers State could incite a crisis.

Clark referred to a statement made by Wike, where the minister suggested he relishes in the errors made by others, presumably aimed at Governor Siminalayi Fubara, indicating these mistakes could lead to significant problems.

In a letter, Clark reminded the leaders of the two major political parties about the severe repercussions if Rivers State were to become unstable. He emphasized the importance of Rivers State, noting its substantial contribution to the national economy through resources and its significant infrastructure, including the International Oil Companies (IOCs) and the deep seaport of Onne.

Clark warned that Ganduje and Damagum could not ignore Wike’s activities in Rivers State. He urged them to control Wike’s excesses to prevent a dangerous crisis in one of Nigeria’s crucial states.

He highlighted Wike’s provocative claim that he alone, and not the people of Rivers State, was responsible for making Fubara governor. Additionally, Clark noted Wike’s boastful assertion that nobody could remove the member representing Ogu-Bolo Constituency, suggesting Wike’s actions could lead to constitutional breaches and a breakdown of law and order.

Clark’s call to action underscores the potential for significant unrest if Wike’s behavior goes unchecked, urging immediate intervention from the country’s leading political figures to maintain stability in Rivers State.
