The Paris Olympics 2024, officially commencing with the opening ceremony on Friday, marks the first time in 100 years that the French capital has hosted the summer Games. The majority of the events will take place in or around Paris’s most iconic locations, adding a unique charm to the Games. The opening ceremony promises to be a spectacular affair, with athletes and dignitaries being transported down six kilometres of the River Seine in boats, providing room for 300,000 spectators to witness the grandeur.

Up to 5,000 police, soldiers, and hired guards will be on patrol at any given time. The River Seine, a focal point for the ceremony, has been fenced off, requiring residents to use QR codes for access, a measure that has drawn some criticism from local businesses.
Despite these challenges, French authorities have promised to remove the barricades after the event. The cost of hosting the Games is estimated to be about €9 billion (£7.6 billion), with the organising committee committed to making it the greenest Olympics in history.
