Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a warning about the potential consequences if the United States provides Ukraine with new missile systems.
This threat follows recent discussions between U.S. and British officials and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, centered on the prospect of supplying Ukraine with long-range missiles.
Speaking to Russian state-controlled television on Thursday, Putin underscored that any increase in Western military support for Ukraine, particularly in the form of advanced missile technology, could lead to direct conflict between Russia and NATO countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
Putin remarked, “If that’s the case, then taking into account the change of nature of the conflict, we will take the appropriate decisions based on the threats that we will face.”
The warning comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to press Western allies for additional military aid, including air defense systems and long-range missiles. Zelensky’s calls for further support reflect his ongoing efforts to bolster Ukraine’s defenses amid the prolonged conflict with Russia.
In response to these developments, British Foreign Minister David Lammy has approved an additional £600 million in aid for Ukraine, while U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has pledged over $700 million in support.
However, the decision on whether to lift restrictions on Storm Shadow long-range missiles, which could allow Ukrainian forces to strike targets up to 190 miles into Russian territory, remains pending.
