Florida is on high alert as Hurricane Milton, once a category five storm, approaches the state’s coast with devastating force. The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) has warned of “potentially catastrophic” storm surges in coastal areas, with significant impacts expected in Tampa Bay.
The storm, which recently passed the northern edge of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, is predicted to make landfall on Wednesday, bringing with it dangerous conditions. Milton’s approach follows closely on the heels of Hurricane Helene, which struck Florida less than two weeks ago, intensifying the state’s urgency in preparing for its largest evacuation operation in years.
