It’s a victory Tuesday for Julius Abure, a very symbolic day in the Yoruba culture. Tuesday is better known as Ojo-Isegun. The sacked Labour Party’s chairman has been put back by a Federal High Court in Abuja, as the official chairman of the party.
The 2024 Nnewi national convention of the party that re-elected Abure as the national chairman was upheld by the court. Adding that all laid down laws in Nigeria to validate the election were sacrosanct.
Obiora Ifoh, the party’s National Publicity Secretary made this known via a press statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Justice Emeka Nwite while delivering the judgement, compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to grant due recognition and all privileges to the Labour Party’s National Working Committee as led by Abure.
Recall that GovimaNG News had reported of INEC’s announcement that it did not recognise Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
The Commission argued that the Abure-led LP leadership was invalid, stating that the March 2024 National Convention that re-elected Abure as chairman violated both the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act.
