Makinde Addresses 2027 Presidential Speculations At Inauguration Of Southwest PDP Secretariat.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has addressed growing speculation surrounding his potential presidential bid in 2027, stating that any decision on his political future would be made solely by him. Speaking at the inauguration of the newly constructed Olusoji Adagunodo Southwest Zonal Secretariat, Makinde emphasised his commitment to internal unity within his party as a means to strengthen opposition against the ruling party.

The event, held in honour of the late Olusoji Adagunodo, former Southwest PDP chairman, saw prominent figures in attendance, including PDP Acting National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, former Governors Samuel Ortom and Okezie Ikpeazu, and other key regional leaders. Makinde highlighted the significance of unity among Southwest leaders, asserting that a united region could positively impact national cohesion.

Reflecting on Adagunodo’s legacy, Makinde expressed his gratitude for the role played by Governor Adeleke in fostering unity, despite previous disagreements over party leadership in the Southwest. Makinde announced that Adagunodo’s son would be appointed as his Special Adviser on Regional Integration, fulfilling a promise to honour his late colleague’s contributions.

Addressing concerns about alleged interference from the ruling party to weaken opposition groups, Makinde urged party members to focus on building internal strength rather than assigning blame. “The upcoming election will not simply be a contest between APC and PDP; it will be between the ruling party and the Nigerian people,” he stated, calling on PDP members to unite and rally behind shared goals.

The new secretariat, funded personally by Makinde, is intended as a lasting tribute to Adagunodo’s contributions to the party, symbolising the values of unity and collaboration that the governor believes are essential for the PDP’s future success in the Southwest.
