Acclaimed Nigerian director Dimeji Ajibola, behind the hit series Shanty Town, has died after battling an undisclosed illness.
His colleague Samuel Olatunji confirmed the news to Tribune Online.
Ajibola was a visionary in the entertainment industry, blending traditional and digital art forms in groundbreaking ways. He worked extensively in film, animation, VFX, virtual worlds, and interactive media.
Dimeji Ajibola held a diverse educational background, having studied filmmaking and cinematography at the New York Film Academy in Universal Studios, advanced character animation at Animation Mentor in San Francisco, and visual effects at VFXLearning.
As the CEO and Technical Director of Flipsyde Studios Ltd., Ajibola led notable projects, including Nigeria’s first urban musical film, Hoodrush (2012), which won multiple awards. These include Best Movie at the Green Me Film Festival in Germany, Best Actor and Soundtrack at the Nollywood Movies Awards, and Best Supporting Actor at the AMAA Awards.
Dimeji Ajibola’s passing leaves a void in the Nigerian film industry and among his global fans.
