US President-elect Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). The decision was shared on Thursday via Trump’s social media account, X (formerly Twitter).
Trump praised Kennedy’s commitment to tackling public health issues, emphasising that the new administration aims to prioritise the safety and health of Americans. He stated, “The safety and health of all Americans is the most important role of any administration, and HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives.”
Trump highlighted Kennedy’s role in addressing what he described as an “overwhelming health crisis” in the United States, linked to industrial food production and pharmaceutical practices. He expressed confidence that Kennedy would bring transparency and restore scientific integrity within HHS, with the goal of combating chronic diseases and enhancing public health.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is well-known as an environmental lawyer and health advocate. He is a son of former US Attorney General and Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and a nephew of former President John F. Kennedy and Senator Ted Kennedy.
